Abstract
ABSTRACT Wanda Anggara. 1135030274. Moral Message In Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol Novel. Undergraduate thesis, English Department, Faculty of Adab and Humanities, Islamic State University of Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. Supervisor:1. Lili Awaludin, M.A. 2. Hasbi Assiddiqi, M.A. A novel is one of the literary works that approached the illustrates of the reality that occurs in the social conditions of society. This study analyzed the moral message in Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol novel and the relationship of the moral message to the English social conditions in the 18th century. Therefore, in this study, there is two main problem related to what are the moral messages contained in Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol novel and what is the relationship between the moral message and the English social conditions in the 18th century. The researcher applied mimetic literary criticism as a reflection and supported by moral theory in the literary work of William Wordsworth. The mimetic analysis method is a method used by researchers to find the results of research. The data collected in this study is derived from Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol novel and shows the English social conditions in the 18th century as a moral message of the novel. A description of English social conditions in the 18th century, researchers obtained data from books relating to English social conditions in the 18th century. The results of this study indicate in the A Christmas Carol novel there are moral messages such as helping each other, respect each other, and care for each other. The researchers found the English social conditions in the 18th century in the moral message contained in Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol novel such as the emergence of capitalism, massive urbanization, poverty, and hunger. The various social conditions present as a moral message in the novel, derived from the reflection of social values and become the central idea in the creation of literary works.
