Abstract
ENGLISH: This research aims to analysis the war narrative and its representations in the video game Call of Duty World at War 2008. Continued to examine the war narrative and its representation in video game Call of Duty World at War 2008 served and construct the understanding of war. This research used the approach of narrative analysis and configured the research method towards qualitative descriptive method. This method serves to execute the finding upon the greater detail understanding. However, the result video game script Call of Duty: World at War 2008 is served where the quality of intricately weaves narratives of conflict, sacrifice, and ethical dilemmas in World War II. The game successfully justifies its portrayal of war through realistic depictions, symbolism, and allegory. It humanizes and dehumanizes characters, prompting reflection on the human cost of war. The analysis explores the representation of war from heroism, trauma, and healing, providing nuanced insights of complexity. Emerging the game to contribute detailed perspective on war, emphasizing the just cause theory in World War II. The game portrays the German Nazi and Japanese Imperial Aggressions, showcasing a coalition defending against aggressors with a legitimate authority and non-vengeful intent. Success is depicted through the Red Army's advance and Naval Army's victory. The game doesn't delve into diplomatic alternatives, focusing on firsthand soldier experiences in a brutal and equal war narrative without discrimination regarding combatant versus combatant. INDONESIA: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis naratif perang dan representasinya dalam permainan video Call of Duty: World at War 2008. Dilanjutkan dengan menguji naratif perang dan representasinya dalam permainan video Call of Duty: World at War 2008 yang memberikan dan membentuk pemahaman tentang perang. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan analisis naratif dan mengonfigurasi metode penelitian ke metode deskriptif kualitatif. Metode ini bertujuan untuk menyajikan temuan dengan pemahaman yang lebih rinci. Namun, hasil skrip permainan video Call of Duty: World at War 2008 menunjukkan kualitas yang menganyam naratif konflik, pengorbanan, dan dilema etika dengan baik dalam Perang Dunia II. Permainan berhasil membenarkan representasinya tentang perang melalui gambaran yang realistis, simbolisme, dan alegori. Permainan ini menghumanisasi dan dehumanisasi karakter, mendorong refleksi tentang biaya kemanusiaan perang. Analisis mengeksplorasi representasi perang dari segi kepahlawanan, trauma, dan penyembuhan, memberikan wawasan yang nuansatif terhadap kompleksitas. Permainan ini memberikan kontribusi pada perspektif yang mendetail tentang perang, menekankan teori sebab yang adil dalam Perang Dunia II. Permainan menggambarkan Agresi Nazi Jerman dan Agresi Imperial Jepang, memperlihatkan koalisi yang membela diri dari para penyerang dengan otoritas yang sah dan niat non-pembalasan. Keberhasilan digambarkan melalui kemajuan Tentara Merah dan kemenangan Angkatan Laut. Permainan ini tidak membahas alternatif diplomatik, fokus pada pengalaman langsung para prajurit dalam naratif perang yang brutal dan setara tanpa diskriminasi karena yang terjadi adalah murni prajurit melawan prajurit.
