Abstract
English club extracurricular activities give students more time and opportunities to learn English. An English supervises the English club and plans exciting and fun language-based activities for the English club members. This research aims to describe English club activities and their speaking and writing abilities in senior high school. This research uses a qualitative approach and case study research design. The participants are class X.10 students, five English club members, and five non-English club members. This research uses a document speaking test and document recount text to assess the speaking and writing abilities of English club members and non-members of English club members in the excellent to poor categories. Based on the results of the speaking test analysis and document recount text analysis of the English club members’ and non-English club members were above and low the minimum score of 78: The 4th student scored 88, the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th students scored 84, and 1st student scored 80. Then, the 7th, 9th and 10th students scored 72, the 9th scored 68, and the last 6th student scored 64. Additionally, the document recount text analysis showed that members of the English club and non-English club members were above and below the minimum score of 78: 1st and 2nd students scored 88, 4th students scored 84, and the last 3rd and 5th students scored 80. The 6th and 9th students scored 72, the 7th and 10th students scored 72, and the previous 8th scored 68. In conclusion, this study shows that English club members have good writing and speaking abilities and get above-average grades in English lessons. English club members receive training on how to speak and write at every meeting. Therefore, English clubs provide a place for students to improve their English speaking and writing skills and for those who want to compete in English.
