Abstract

ENGLISH: This study aims to analyze the representation of the Israel-Palestine conflict in international media coverage, specifically The New York Times and the BBC in 2024, using Van Dijk's Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach. The research focuses on the political aspects of news coverage, examining the cognitive, social, and structural dimensions of discourse. Data were collected through content analysis of news articles selected for their relevance and significance to the Israel-Palestine conflict. The analysis was conducted at three levels: macrostructure (main theme/topic), superstructure (news scheme/structure), and microstructure, encompassing semantic, syntactic, stylistic, and rhetorical aspects. The findings reveal that The New York Times and the BBC employed different framing strategies in presenting the conflict. These differences were influenced by each outlet's political context, cultural background, and audience. Additionally, biases were identified in the use of lexicon, background information, and detail presentation, which shape how readers perceive the conflict. This study highlights the crucial role of media in shaping public perceptions of international issues and its contribution to global agenda setting. These findings are expected to provide new insights into media discourse analysis and its relevance to international relations and global politics.
