Abstract

This study aims to present the social reality contained in John Green's novel Paper Towns. This study uses A. Teeuw's approach in revealing, analyzing and interpreting data. The method used in this study is a qualitative method. Qualitative methods are defined as writing procedures that produce descriptive data in the form of written or spoken words from people or observable behavior. Social reality is expressed through the elements of the novel. In this context, we can use A. Teeuw's approach to analyze John Green's Paper Towns by focusing on how the novel reflects the social reality of American teenagers, by considering the relationship between social context. The results of this research show that 1) Paper Towns illustrates various aspects of the teenage experience, including the complexities of identity, the nuances of friendships, the realities of romantic relationships, the impact of social media, and the quest for meaning, 2) In Paper Towns, the depiction of cities plays a significant role in reflecting social conditions and the broader societal themes that resonate with the experiences of American teenagers.
