Abstract

ENGLISH: This study aims to identify the categorization and the function of discourse markers and joke technique as well as the implementation of the functions of discourse marker and joke technique in creating humor. To identify the category and function of discourse markers, Brinton’s theory is used, meanwhile to identify joke technique Schwarz’s framework is used. Through the qualitative method, the data were collected by using documentation in form of video. The result of this research is Pandji Pragiwaksono’s Stand-up Comedy show in America contains discourse markers. The discourse markers that appear in this research, there are opening marker as the opening of the discourse, closing marker as the close the discourse, turn-takers as the taking or giving a turn, filler as the hesitator, topic shifter as the signal shifts of change the topic, information indicator as the new information indicators, sequence marker as the sequential marker, repair markers as the repair one's own or others' discourse, reaction/response marker as the agreement and confirmation-seeker works as gaining confirmation. This research also shows that Pandji Pragiwaksono’s Stand-up Comedy show in America implement the joke technique and discourse marker in creating his humor material. The joke techniques used are, Paralanguage to exaggerate his humor material, Ridicule to ridicule the things, Satire to satirize the things, and Power to influence people, Solidarity to soften the seriousness, Politeness strategies to implicitly telling sarcasm. INDONESIA: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi kategori dan fungsi discourse markers serta joke technique serta penerapan fungsi discourse markers dan joke technique dalam menciptakan humor. Untuk mengidentifikasi kategori dan fungsi discourse markers penelitian ini menggunakan teori discourse markers dari Brinton, sedangkan untuk joke technique digunakan teori joke technique dari Schwarz. Melalui metode kualitatif, data dalam penelitian ini dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan dokumentasi dalam bentuk video, memilah video berdasarkan penayangan terbanyak, dan mentranskripsi ucapan Pandji ke dalam bentuk tulisan. Hasil penelitian ini adalah Stand-up Comedy Pandji Pragiwaksono di Amerika, diidentifikasi dan dikategorikan memiliki discourse markers. Discourse markers yang muncul dalam penelitian ini, yaitu opening marker sebagai penanda pembuka wacana, closing marker sebagai penanda penutup wacana, turn-takers sebagai penanda mengambil atau memberi giliran, filler sebagai penanda ragu-ragu bagi pembicara, topic shifter sebagai penanda isyarat pergantian topik, information indicator sebagai penanda informasi baru, sequence marker sebagai penanda sekuensial, repair marker sebagai penanda perbaikan wacana diri sendiri atau orang lain, reaction/response marker sebagai penanda persetujuan dan confirmation seeker sebagai penanda perolehan konfirmasi.Dalam penelitian ini juga menunjukkan bahwa, acara Stand-up Comedy Pandji Pragiwaksono di Amerika menerapkan teknik lelucon dan penanda wacana dalam menciptakan materi humornya. Joke technique yang teridentifikasi yakni Paralanguage untuk melebih-lebihkan materi humor, Ridicule untuk mengejek sesuatu, Satire untuk menyindir sesuatu, and (Power untuk mempengaruhi orang, Solidarity untuk melembutkan keseriusan, Politeness Startegies untuk secara implisit menyampaikan sarkasme).
