Abstract
This study aims to identify the types of turn-taking mechanisms commonly used, analyze their implementation in the episode, and contribute to the field of pragmatics by providing deeper insights into turn-taking in an informal yet structured context, such as a podcast. The research employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach, as the data analyzed consisted of words and sentences. Data were collected from the selected podcast episode and analyzed in detail to identify turn-taking patterns. The study focused on events such as starting a turn, taking over a turn, interruptions, overlaps, holding the floor, and yielding the floor. The analysis revealed that out of 32 data points, there was 1 instance of starting a turn, 5 instances of taking over a turn, 11 interruptions, 4 overlaps, 4 cases of holding the floor, and 7 cases of yielding the floor. The study concludes that turn-taking mechanisms in this episode were predominantly characterized by interruptions and yielding the floor. These findings reflect the interactive communication dynamics between the host and guest, despite their differing communication styles. This research contributes to the field of pragmatics by illustrating turn-taking patterns in a podcast format and providing recommendations for improving effective communication in similar contexts. Key Words: Turn-taking, turn-taking types, podcast, pragmatics, qualitative research.
