Abstract

ENGLISH : Spider-Man No Way Home 2021 is an American superhero genre film by Jon Watts which is the third sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming 2017 and Spider-Man: Far From Home 2019 produced by the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This movie uses the superhero convention formula combined with invention and reimagining the concept of the multiverse. Thus, the story exploration and character development become broader, more complex and interesting. This research aims to analyze the use of convention, invention, and reimagining formulas in Spider-Man: No Way Home. There are two research questions: 1) what kind of superhero character development is portrayed in The Spider-Man: No Way Home 2021? 2) how do invention and reimagining affect the superhero formula in The Spider-Man: No Way Home 2021? This research uses Coogen's theory of superhero formula, Nachbar's theory of formula literature, and Reimagining theory, with literary criticism method and objective approach through film narratology. The findings show that there are four phases that show the development of Peter Parker's character through the convention of the superhero formula: Adolescence Arc, Turning Point to Adul hood Arc, Confirming Stance Arc, Consequence and The Theme Defined Arc. And there are four Invention that affect the superhero formula in this movie: The Identity Crisis, The New Function of Costume, The Reimagining Spider-Man Tropes, and The Reimagining Multiverse Concept. INDONESIA : Spider-Man No Way Home 2021 merupakan film bergenre superhero dari amerika karya Jon Watts yang merupakan sequel ketiga dari Spider-Man: Homecoming 2017 dan Spider-Man: Far From Home 2019 yang diproduksi oleh Marvel Cinematic Universe. Film ini menggunakan menggunakan formula convention superhero yang dipadukan dengan invention dan mereimagining konsep multiverse. Sehingga ekplorasi cerita dan perkembangan karakter lebih luas, kompleks dan menarik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penggunaan formula convention, invention, dan reimagining pada Spider-Man: No Way Home. Untuk menjawab rumusan penelitian, terdapat dua pertanyaan penelitian: 1) seperti apa pengembangan karakter superhero yang tergambar dalam The Spider-Man: No Way Home 2021? 2) bagaimana invention dan reimagining mempengaruhi superhero formula dalam The Spider-Man: No Way Home 2021? Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Coogen mengenai formula superhero, teori Nachbar mengenai formula literature, dan teori Reimagining, dengan metode kritik sastra dan pendekatan objektif melalui narratology film. Temuan ini menunjukan bahwa ada empat fase yang memperlihatkan perkembangan karakter Peter Parker melalui convention formula superhero: Adolescence Arc, Turning Point to Adul Hood Arc, Confirming Stance Arc, Consequence and The Theme Defined Arc. Dan terdapat empat Invention yang berpengaruh pada formula superhero dalam film ini: The Identity Crisis, The New Function of Costume, The Reimagining Spider-Man Tropes, dan The Reimagining Multiverse Concept
