Abstract

The thesis titled “Conversational Implicature in the movie scripts Sherlock Holmes {2009)”. To define the conversational implicature in the Sherlock Holmes movie is the study's main goal (2009). The research is descriptive qualitative, and the data include quotes from characters' speeches from the 2009 movie Sherlock Holmes that feature conversational implicatures. Conversational implicature is an essential concept in pragmatics. Conversational forms between characters that have a substantial amount of implied meaning and whose meaning exceeds the grammar rules of the language. In these situations, pragmatics is utilized by using conversational implicature to create hidden meanings clear. In this research, purposive-sampling is employed. In the Sherlock Holmes (2009) movie, there are numerous characters. The researcher restricts the observation to Sherlock Holmes, the verse’s leading character. Being the leading character and a mystery-solving detective leads to the occurrence of conversational implicature.
