Abstract

This research aims to examine the types, intentions, and forms of expressive speech acts of anger by Instagram users in the comments section on posts shared by the Israeli government on Instagram after the attack by Israel on the refugee camp in Rafah. This research uses qualitative method with descriptive research type. The theories used are Mack LeMouse's (2011) theory for types, Yule's (1996) theory for intentions, and Madow's (1972) theory to find out the forms of anger expression speech acts. From the results that 72 data were found to indicate anger expressions. First, for the types of expressive speech act of anger, there are only 5 types found, where 26 data for the type of verbal anger expression and the most data, the next highest data is the expression of judgmental anger with 19 data, the average Instagram user uses harsh words to vent their anger. Second, for the intentions in expressive speech acts of anger, the most common are swearing intention with 15 data, and then followed by mocking intention with 13 data, when expressing anger apart from swearing also tend to use mocking intentions to ridicule and humiliate the Israeli side. Third, in the form of expressing anger, 50 data were found for direct form, followed by 18 data for thinly veiled form, and 4 data for indirect form. Based on the research, the expression of anger expressed by Instagram users towards Israel as a response to news about Israel's actions that violate by attacking civilians and the rights of Palestinians who are protected. Suggestions in this research that can use this research as reference to develop speech acts of anger expression using new objects on other social media platforms and clear theories.
