Abstract

Keterampilan berpikir kritis merupakan pilar utama keberhasilan Pendidikan abad ke-21 dan menjadi fondasi dalam penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila sesuai Kurikulum Merdeka. Namun, rendahnya kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa, khususnya pada materi sistem pernapasan yang bersifat abstrak, menjadi tantangan dalam pembelajaran IPA. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh model pembelajaran POE (Predict-Observe-Explain) terhadap peningkatan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa. penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain quasi eksperimen tipe non-equivalent control group. Subjek penelitian terdiri atas du akelas VIII SMP Mekar Arum yang ditentukan secara purposive. Instrument yang digunakan meliputi observasi keterlaksanaan pembelajaran, tes berpikir kritis, dan angket respon siswa. hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa penerapan model POE secara signifikan meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis dibandingkan pembelajaran konvensional. Kebaruan penelitian ini terletak pada integrase sintaks POE dengan praktik kontekstual melalui kegiatan praktikum dan refleksi ilmiah. Model POE terbukti mampu mendorong proses berpikir tingkat tinggi, mengurangi miskonsepsi, dan memperkuat pemahaman konseptual siswa. temuan ini memberikan kontribusi ilmiah terhadap pengembangan pendagogi berbasis konstruktivisme dan menjadi alternatif strategis dalam menciptakan pembelajaran sains yang bemakna dan inovatif. Kata Kunci: model POE, berpikir kritis, sistem pernapasan Critical thinking skills are a foundational element of success in 21st-century education and serve as a foundation for realizing the Pancasila Student Profile as mandated by the Merdeka Curriculum. However, the low level of students’ critical thinking, particularly in the abstract topic of the respiratory system, presents a challenge in science education. This study aims to investigate the impact of the Predict-Observe-Explain (POE) learning model on enhancing students’ critical thinking skills. The research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design with nonequivalent control group. The subject consisted of two Grade VIII classes at SMP Mekar Arum, selected purposively. Instruments included a critical thinking test, a student response, and an observation of lesson implementation. The results indicated that the POE model significantly improved students’ critical thinking skills compared to conventional learning models. The novelty of this study lies in its contextual integration of the POE syntax with hands-on experimentation and scientific reflection. The POE model effectively promotes higher-order thinking, reduces misconceptions, and enhances conceptual understanding. These findings contribute to the advancement of constructivist-based pedagogy and offer a strategic alternative for creating meaningful and innovative science learning experiences.
