Abstract

The absence of a father figure or fatherless condition in emerging adulthood can pose psychological challenges, especially in the formation of self-esteem. This study aims to determine the effect of self-acceptance and social support on self-esteem in fatherless individuals. This study used a quantitative correlational approach involving 295 students of UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung who experienced fatherlessness, either due to the death of the father or divorce of the parents. Data were collected through three psychological scales: self-acceptance scale (Berger), social support scale (Zimet), and self-esteem scale (Rosenberg), which were then analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results showed that self-acceptance and social support simultaneously had a positive and significant effect on self-esteem, with a contribution of 65.6%. This means that the higher the level of self-acceptance and social support an individual has, the higher the self-esteem formed. This finding confirms the important role of self-acceptance and social environment in supporting the psychological development of individuals who experience the loss of fatherhood.
