Abstract

INDONESIA: Penelitian ini mengkaji sejarah masuknya Islam ke wilayah Kerinci, Provinsi Jambi, pada abad ke-18 melalui analisis terhadap surat Kesultanan Jambi koleksi British Library dengan kode TK.43. Surat beraksara Jawi ini menunjukkan adanya hubungan politik dan keagamaan antara Sultan Jambi dan para pemimpin adat (Depati) di Kerinci. Melalui pendekatan filologis dan historis, penelitian ini menelusuri proses Islamisasi yang dilakukan secara bertahap melalui diplomasi, legitimasi kekuasaan, dan pengaruh budaya tulis Islam-Melayu. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa Islamisasi di Kerinci tidak terlepas dari peran aktif Kesultanan Jambi dan berlangsung dalam kerangka integrasi sosial-politik yang menghargai struktur lokal. Naskah TK.43 menjadi bukti penting dalam memahami peran naskah kuno sebagai sumber primer sejarah Islam di daerah pedalaman Nusantara. Sebagai sumber primer, surat TK.43 menjadi bukti penting atas jalinan komunikasi dan otoritas Kesultanan Jambi terhadap wilayah Kerinci, khususnya kepada para Depati (kepala adat) yang menerima legitimasi atau perintah langsung dari Sultan. Kandungan surat ini mengindikasikan adanya struktur politik dan sosial yang terorganisir, serta menyingkap peran Kesultanan dalam menyebarkan ajaran Islam melalui pendekatan diplomatik, kekerabatan, dan pengakuan otoritas lokal. Dengan menelaah aspek kodikologi dan tekstologi naskah, penelitian ini juga menelusuri ciri material naskah, konteks penulisan, gaya bahasa, serta struktur kalimat surat sebagai cermin budaya tulis Melayu-Islam abad ke-18. ENGLISH: This study examines the history of the spread of Islam in the Kerinci region, Jambi Province, during the 18th century through an analysis of a letter from the Jambi Sultanate, held in the British Library collection under the code TK.43. Written in Jawi script, the letter reveals political and religious ties between the Sultan of Jambi and local traditional leaders (Depati) in Kerinci. Through a philological and historical approach, this research traces the gradual process of Islamization, which was carried out through diplomacy, the legitimization of authority, and the influence of Malay-Islamic written culture. The findings show that the Islamization of Kerinci was closely linked to the active role of the Jambi Sultanate and occurred within a framework of socio-political integration that respected local structures. Manuscript TK.43 serves as a vital primary source in understanding the role of historical documents in tracing the spread of Islam in the remote interior regions of the Indonesian archipelago. As a primary source, the TK.43 letter provides crucial evidence of the communication network and authority exercised by the Jambi Sultanate over the Kerinci region, particularly in its interactions with the Depati (customary chiefs) who received direct orders or recognition from the Sultan. The contents of the letter indicate an organized political and social structure and reveal the Sultanate’s role in spreading Islamic teachings through diplomacy, kinship, and acknowledgment of local authority. By analyzing the codicological and textual aspects of the manuscript, this research also explores the material characteristics, writing context, linguistic style, and sentence structure of the letter as a reflection of 18th-century Malay-Islamic written culture. ARABIC: تتناول هذه الدراسة تاريخ وصول الإسلام إلى منطقة كرينسي، مقاطعة جامبي، في القرن الثامن عشر من خلال تحليل رسالة من سلطنة جامبي، مُرمزة بـ TK.43، من مجموعة المكتبة البريطانية.تُظهر هذه الرسالة المكتوبة بالخط الجاوي العلاقة السياسية والدينية بين سلطان جامبي والزعماء التقليديين (ديباتي) في كرينسي. وباتباع نهج لغوي وتاريخي، تتتبع هذه الدراسة عملية الأسلمة التدريجية، التي حدثت من خلال الدبلوماسية، وشرعنة السلطة، وتأثير الثقافة الإسلامية الملايوية المكتوبة. وتُظهر هذه النتائج أن الأسلمة في كرينسي لم تنفصل عن الدور الفعال لسلطنة جامبي، وأنها حدثت في إطار من التكامل الاجتماعي والسياسي الذي يحترم الهياكل المحلية. وتُعدّ مخطوطة TK.43 دليلاً حاسماً لفهم دور المخطوطات القديمة كمصادر أساسية للتاريخ الإسلامي في المناطق الداخلية من الأرخبيل الإندونيسي. تُقدم رسالة TK.43، كمصدر رئيسي، دليلاً حاسماً على تواصل سلطنة جامبي وسلطتها على منطقة كيرينجي، ولا سيما الديباتي (القادة التقليديون) الذين تلقوا الشرعية أو الأوامر المباشرة من السلطان. يشير محتوى هذه الرسالة إلى بنية سياسية واجتماعية منظمة، ويكشف عن دور السلطنة في نشر التعاليم الإسلامية من خلال النهج الدبلوماسي، وصلة القرابة، والاعتراف بالسلطة المحلية. ومن خلال دراسة علم المخطوطات والنصوص في المخطوطة، يستكشف هذا البحث أيضاً الخصائص المادية للمخطوطة، وسياق كتابتها، وأسوأسلوب لغتها، للثقافة وبنية جملها كانعكاس للثقافة المكتوبة الملايوية الإسلامية في القرن الثامن عشر..
