Abstract
Language is important. It can help people able to communicate each other. In language, grammar has a set of rule that govern the use of the language. In a sentence, paragraph, order of expression is based on grammatical rule. This research focuses on these questions: (1) How do students comprehend English word classes? (2) How do these comprehensions help them to comprehend texts? The study of this research employed qualitative case study and involved thirtythree students of English Department. The data obtains from questionnaire. The researcher employed descriptive method in analyzing data. Based on the whole analysis, researcher found that the students’ understanding on English word classes helps them comprehend the text. The relation between understanding word classes and reading comprehension is shown to be significant in students understanding of the position of words in a sentence and to get the meaning of the text.
