Abstract
This study examines how Avenged Sevenfold’s The Stage (2016) represents themes of social conflict and its’ impact on social change through its lyrics. Using Marxist theory as the analytical framework, this research explores how the album critiques power structures, inequality, and the consequences of technological progress in shaping modern society. The study aims to understand how music serves as a medium for social commentary, reflecting both the struggles and transformations within contemporary society. The research employs qualitative analysis, focusing on the interpretation of lyrics to identify underlying themes related to social oppression, ideological control, militarization, and alienation. Findings suggest that the album presents a critical view of systemic inequalities, questioning the dominant ideologies that shape public consciousness. The lyrics highlight a sense of disillusionment with societal norms, exposing how economic, political, and technological forces contribute to ongoing conflicts and the need for transformation. Furthermore, this study reveals that the album not only portrays struggles within society but also fosters awareness of the need for change. By addressing issues of exploitation, control, and existential crises, The Stage serves as both a critique of contemporary issues and an invitation for listeners to reflect on their roles within these systems. The research contributes to a broader understanding of how music can function as a tool for social critique, encouraging critical thought and discussion about the structures that govern human lives.
