Abstract

This research examines the cooperation agreement (mukhabarah) mechanism between rice field owners and cultivators, based on an unwritten agreement to divide the harvest 50:50, where the owner provides the land and the cultivator bears the costs and seeds. The study aims to understand the implementation of rice field management cooperation at Mrs. Maesaroh's rice field in Tanjungsiang Village, Subang, and its compliance with Islamic Economic Law. The theoretical framework used is mukhabarah, supported by a Hadith from Muslim narrating how the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) gave the Khaibar gardens to its inhabitants for cultivation with a share of the produce. Using a qualitative descriptive analytical method, through in-depth interviews and observations, the research found that while the initial agreement was 50:50, the actual harvest distribution changed to 60% for the cultivator and 40% for the owner. Although mukhabarah is permissible in Islam, this unilateral change is suspected of violating the initial promise, making the owner feel deceived and wronged. This highlights a discrepancy with the principles and conditions of mukhabarah, which emphasize fairness and adherence to agreements.
