Abstract

People use verbal and nonverbal language for communication. But, when they communicate, they are more focus of verbal language than nonverbal language. Whereas, nonverbal gives more impression than verbal due to there are signs which communicate a certain message. In this case, this research analyzes nonverbal communication in The King’s Speech Movie Script written by David Seidler (2010). The researcher focuses on questions as follows: (1) what kinds of nonverbal communication are used in The King’s Speech Movie Script; what functions of nonverbal communication are used in The King’s Speech Movie Script? The data for this research are 30 nonverbal communication which has been selected purposively. To facilitate this research is designed in a qualitative analysis using descriptive method. The researcher used nonverbal communication theory by DeVito (2015) as the primary theory and others which are related to nonverbal communication as supported theories. Based on the analysis, the researcher found 4 kinds of nonverbal communication used in the object. They are: kinesics, paralanguage, proxemics, and artifacts. Those kinds of nonverbal, kinesics dominates the use of nonverbal in The King’s Speech movie script. A part of those kinds includes to functions of nonverbal, they are: nonverbal to emphasize, to substitute, to complement, to contradict, to repeat, and the last to control verbal communication.
