Abstract

Di tengah maraknya penyebaran informasi yang tidak terverifikasi atau hoaks di era digital saat ini, peran media massa, termasuk radio, menjadi sangat krusial dalam menjaga kualitas informasi yang diterima oleh publik. Media dituntut tidak hanya menjadi saluran penyampai informasi, tetapi juga sebagai penyaring awal dalam proses distribusi berita. Dalam konteks ini, proses gatekeeping atau penyaringan informasi menjadi sangat penting untuk memastikan bahwa informasi yang disampaikan bersifat akurat, relevan, dan sesuai dengan kebutuhan masyarakat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis proses gatekeeping dalam jurnalistik radio dengan fokus utama pada program "Sonata Moyan" yang disiarkan di Radio Sonata FM, Bandung. Proses Gatekeeping dalam penelitian ini merujuk pada mekanisme seleksi informasi yang akan disampaikan penyiar kepada publik, yang melibatkan berbagai faktor internal dan eksternal. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu teori gatekeeping yang dikembangkan oleh Kurt Lewin dan diperluas oleh Shoemaker dan Vos yang menjelaskan fungsi seorang jurnalis sebagai gatekeeper (penjaga gerbang) yang menentukan informasi layak tidaknya disiarkan kepada publik. Penelitian ini mengidentifikasi lima faktor yang memengaruhi proses gatekeeping pada program siaran Sonata Moyan, yaitu faktor individu, rutinitas media, kebijakan organisasi, pengaruh eksternal, dan sistem sosial. Adapun metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif, dengan melakukan wawancara dan observasi terhadap kru yang berperan dalam proses gatekeeping di Radio Sonata FM khususnya pada program siaran Sonata Moyan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa proses gatekeeping pada program Sonata Moyan memiliki gatekeeper yang menjalankan fungsinya dengan dipengaruhi oleh lima faktor utama. a. Faktor individu, seperti latar belakang dan pengalaman penyiar serta scriptwriter, sangat menentukan pemilihan berita. b. Rutinitas media mendukung kelancaran siaran melalui fleksibilitas dan improvisasi. c. Kebijakan organisasi membatasi topik sensitif. d. Tekanan eksternal dari audiens dan pemerintah lokal mempertimbangkan preferensi masyarakat. e. Nilai sosial dan budaya lokal juga dijadikan acuan agar isi siaran sesuai norma. Proses gatekeeping di Sonata Moyan tidak hanya teknis, tetapi juga mempertimbangkan aspek sosial dan ideologis demi menjaga relevansi informasi bagi publik. Amid the widespread dissemination of unverified information or hoaxes in today’s digital era, the role of mass media, including radio, has become crucial in maintaining the quality of information received by the public. Media are required not only to serve as channels of information dissemination but also as initial filters in the news distribution process. In this context, the gatekeeping process becomes essential to ensure that the information delivered is accurate, relevant, and aligned with the public’s needs. This study aims to analyze the gatekeeping process in radio journalism with a primary focus on the “Sonata Moyan” program broadcast on Radio Sonata FM, Bandung. The gatekeeping process in this research refers to the mechanism of selecting information to be delivered by the announcer to the public, involving various internal and external factors. The theoretical framework employed in this study is the gatekeeping theory developed by Kurt Lewin and expanded by Shoemaker and Vos, which explains the function of a journalist as a gatekeeper who determines whether or not information is suitable for public dissemination. This research identifies five factors influencing the gatekeeping process in the “Sonata Moyan” program: individual factors, media routines, organizational policies, external influences, and social systems. The study uses a descriptive approach, involving interviews and observations of crew members involved in the gatekeeping process at Radio Sonata FM, particularly in the "Sonata Moyan" program. The results indicate that the gatekeeping process in the “Sonata Moyan” program is carried out by gatekeepers whose functions are influenced by five key factors. a. Individual factors, such as the announcer’s and scriptwriter’s backgrounds and experiences, significantly influence news selection. b. Media routines support smooth broadcasting through flexibility and improvisation. c. Organizational policies limit sensitive topics. d. external pressures from audiences and local government consider public preferences. e. Local social and cultural values are also used as references to ensure the content aligns with prevailing norms. The gatekeeping process in “Sonata Moyan” is not only technical but also considers social and ideological aspects to maintain the relevance of information for the public.
