Abstract

This study investigate of errors in students pronunciation of speaking English. Three research questions of this study are: 1) To know the students errors in speaking English, 2) to identify the causes of students errors in English pronunciation, 3) to find out the solution of the students errors in pronunciation of speaking English. The methodology of this research is the descriptive method, which aims to describe the situation or phenomenon. In the research field, the writers used descriptive method for solving the current problem. The techniques used for collecting data were: observation, interview, and tests. The result of research shows that the teachers and participants need to be aware of the importance of constructive corrections. How far students can deal with error correction also depends on their level of proficiency and previous knowledge. Therefore, it is a must for teachers to know learners’ level and previous knowledge to avoid discouragement on the learners’ side. Thus, teachers should build up a sense of togetherness in speaking class to avoid students’ errors in pronunciation. Finally, this research concludes that the solution of the students’ error in pronunciation, the teacher speaks of a correct pronunciation in front of the students and the students repeat after the teacher. And suggestion from this study the students should have good self awareness in motivating themselves to pronounce English word correctly. The result of this study shows that the Seventh Grade Students of MTs Mekar Karya Ubrug have a good level in pronouncing English although there are some students who make errors.
