Abstract
In English education, writing is an essential activity. Beside reading, Writing is a skill that should be mastered by a student who is interested in learning a language. The skill is tightly related to literature as one of human civilizations. This statement is due to a reality explaining that people can know literature works because the works are mostly presented in written forms. Prose is one of them. In this research, the form of literature works is perceived by students who have learnt it and related to their writing skills. In this process of learning, perception itself is very important because, as part of a psychological study, it will determine the success of learning. Based on the preceding statement, this research is aimed to comprehend Student’s perception toward Prose Course related to writing skills so that the correlation between both of them can be known. The research is conducted by a hypothesis that is the better Student’s perception toward Prose Course the better their writing ability. The method used in the research is a descriptive method by using a statistic analysis that chi square to test normality of data and correlation analysis to find a relation between variable X and Y. The data consist of 15 questionnaires as the form of writing test. Twenty eight students answered the questionnaires and wrote the stories. The Result of the data analysis states that score of Student’s perception toward Prose Course is 3.73 interpreted as a high criterion, English writing skill is 74.04 interpreted as a high qualification, and correlation between variable X and Y is 0.78 interpreted as a high correlation. The percentage of influence of variable X and Y is obtained as much as 37.5%. the fact proves that their perception toward Prose Course has a significant influence in improving Student’s writing skill.
