Abstract

Storytelling method in teaching learning English vocabulary is aimed to help students to know the meaning of unfamiliar words. It can be learned in a comprehensive and natural way. Besides, young learners can easily understand the meaning of a vocabulary since the use of facial expression, movements and gestures make the meaning of that vocabulary clear. Children can be asked to imitate some actions performed by a teacher to reinforce their comprehension. The writer used quantitative experimental method in this study. The study is divided into two classes: experimental and control class. The writer used pre-test and post-test to get the data. The data analysis is used to compute a significant improvement between teaching English vocabulary by using Storytelling method. The counting used statistical method with t-test. This research was done at SDN Sapan I Bojongsoang Bandung on the fifth grade. This research was intended to know the answer of the research statement empirically: how the students’ ability on mastering English vocabulary in using Storytelling method is, how significance the use of storytelling method is. The result of data analysis shows us that the students’ mastery in English vocabulary using storytelling method have the mean score 68.50 and 60.70 the students mastery English vocabulary without using storytelling method have the mean score. The counting of t-test had the data tcount= 2.84 >ttable= 0. 61. It can be said that the null hypothesis (Ho) is refused. In order words, there is a significant improvement between students’ mastery in English vocabulary using storytelling method and without storytelling method. The finding shows that storytelling method has influenced to teaching learning English vocabulary. It gives an opportunity for students to develop their English vocabulary in a fun way. In reference to the result of this study, the conclusion is drawn that Storytelling Method is appropriate to apply in classes.
