Abstract

There are many factors that influence on students’ achievements in English. One of those factors is students’ motivation and school environment. Students’ motivation includes challenge, curiosity, control, and fantasy. Meanwhile, school environment includes learning time, teacher support, friend support, and facilities. The purpose of this research is to know the comparison of the influence of students’ motivation and school environments on English learning achievement at grade eleven of the SMAN 1 Cilograng, Lebak-Banten. The hypothesis of this research is Ho, means that there is no significant different influence between students’ motivation and school environment on their achievements in English. Ha, means that there is significant different influence between students’ motivation and school environment on their achievements in English. The method of this research is descriptive method. It is a kind of research by explaining data which I got naturally, I analyze, and then I conclude them. Whereas, the technique that is used in collecting data is: interview, observation, and questionnaire. To know variable X1 (students’ motivation), X2 (school environment), and Y (students’ achievement), the writer used the questionnaire by distributing to 30 respondents. After processing the data, it was known that tcounted (0.384) ≤ ttable (2.39) indicates that there is a bit significant difference finding in questionnaire between students’ motivation and school environment on English learning achievement. The differences between both of them are not too far, but null hypothesis is rejected. From this reality, we can conclude that students’ motivation and school environment at the SMAN 1 Cilograng must be improved. Some suggestions to improve students’ motivation and school environment are students must increase their motivation to learn English subject, teacher must improve students’ motivation to study hard than before like giving them explanation about useful English subject, and choosing time learning is important to give positive influence to students’ learning. If students study at morning, their body is still fresh. But, if students study at afternoon, it is not good because it is time to take rest.
