Abstract

Indonesia : Upaya menafsirkan al-Qur’an adalah untuk mendapatkan kebenaran. Al-Qur’an secara teks memang tidak berubah, tetapi penafsiran atasnya, selalu berubah sesuai dengan konteks ruang dan waktu dimana setiap mufasir berada. Pemahaman terhadap konstruksi penafsiran merupakan hal penting dalam membantu memahami penafsiran Al-Qur’an dari karya seseorang, serta memahami pesan-pesan Al-Qur’an. Tidak dapat dipungkiri, perkembangan ilmu tafsir sejak 14 abad silam telah banyak menghasilkan berbagai macam kitab-kitab tafsir yang ditulis baik ulama klasik maupun kontemporer. Seperti halnya penafsir Yahudi yang masuk Islam yaitu Muhammad Asad dalam tafsirnya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis dan mengidentifikasi pandangan para orientalis Barat terhadap ketokohan Muhammad Asad, menjelaskan konteks historis dan perkembangan tafsir rasional yang membentuk horizon pemikirannya, menguraikan konstruksi metode penafsirannya dalam The Message of the Qur’an, serta menilai kontribusinya terhadap perkembangan studi tafsir kontemporer.. Untuk menjawab rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini, maka penulis menggunakan beberapa teori, diantaranya teori metode hermeneutika tafsir ayat al-qur’an dan teori metodologi tafsir kontemporer, diantaranya metode ijmaly (global), metode tahlily (analitis), metode muqarin (komparatif) dan metode maudhu’y (tematik). Penelitian ini termasuk pada penelitian yang bersifat kepustakaan atau Library Research yaitu penelitian yang fokus pada rujukan atau sumber bacaan, baik berupa buku, jurnal. Artikel, dan lain-lain, yang berhubungan dengan tema, dengan jenis penelitian kualitatif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa: 1) Pandangan orientalis Barat terhadap Muhammad Asad memperlihatkan bahwa ia dipandang sebagai tokoh yang mampu memadukan nalar modern dengan kedalaman spiritual Islam, sehingga ditempatkan sebagai jembatan intelektual antara dunia Islam dan Barat; 2) konteks historis dan perkembangan tafsir rasional yang membentuk pemikirannya menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan Asad lahir dari pertemuan horizon rasionalitas Eropa dan pengalaman hidup dalam lingkungan Arab-Islam, yang kemudian mendorongnya pada pembacaan Al-Qur’an yang etis, kontekstual, dan berbasis bahasa; 3) konstruksi metode penafsirannya dalam The Message of the Qur’an tampak melalui perpaduan antara analisis bahasa (lughawiyyah), kesinambungan antarayat (siyāqiyyah), penalaran rasional (‘aqliyyah), dan orientasi tujuan moral (maqāṣidiyyah), yang diperkaya dengan pendekatan hermeneutik modern; 4) kontribusi tafsir Asad terhadap studi tafsir kontemporer terlihat dalam kemampuannya menghadirkan model penafsiran yang rasional, dialogis, dan relevan bagi pembaca modern, sehingga membantu memperluas ruang tafsir yang lebih humanistik dan komunikatif dalam wacana kajian Al-Qur’an masa kini. English : The effort to interpret the Qur’an aims at discovering the truth. While the text of the Qur’an remains unchanged, its interpretation constantly develops in accordance with the spatial and temporal contexts in which each exegete lives. Understanding the construction of an interpretation is essential for comprehending how a mufassir engages with the Qur’anic text and articulates its messages. Over fourteen centuries, Qur’anic exegesis has produced a wide range of works authored by both classical and contemporary scholars. Among them is Muhammad Asad, a Jewish-born thinker who embraced Islam and produced a notable Qur’anic commentary. This research aims to analyze and identify Western orientalist views on the intellectual figure of Muhammad Asad, explain the historical context and rational-exegetical developments that shaped his intellectual horizon, elaborate the construction of his interpretive methodology in The Message of the Qur’an, and assess his contribution to contemporary Qur’anic studies. To address these research questions, this study employs several theoretical frameworks, including hermeneutical approaches to Qur’anic interpretation and contemporary methodologies such as the ijmālī (general), taḥlīlī (analytical), muqārin (comparative), and mawḍū‘ī (thematic) methods. This research is a qualitative library study that focuses on references and written sources such as books, journals, articles, and other materials related to the theme. The findings of this research indicate that: 1) Western orientalists regard Muhammad Asad as a figure who successfully integrates modern rationality with Islamic spirituality, making him an intellectual bridge between Islam and the West; 2) the historical context and rational exegetical developments shaping his thought arise from the encounter between European rationalism and his lived experience in Arab-Islamic environments, leading him toward an ethical, contextual, and language-based reading of the Qur’an; 3) his exegetical method in The Message of the Qur’an combines linguistic analysis (lughawiyyah), intra-textual coherence (siyāqiyyah), rational argumentation (‘aqliyyah), and moral orientation (maqāṣidiyyah), enriched with modern hermeneutical approaches; and 4) his contribution to contemporary Qur’anic studies lies in offering a rational, dialogical, and relevant model of interpretation for modern readers, thereby expanding a more humanistic and communicative space in Qur’anic scholarship today. Arabic: إنّ الجهد في تفسير القرآن يهدف إلى الوصول إلى الحقيقة. فنصّ القرآن ثابت لا يتغيّر، غير أنّ تفسيره يتجدّد دائمًا بحسب السياق الزماني والمكاني الذي يعيش فيه كلّ مفسر. ويُعَدّ فهمُ بناء التفسير أمرًا مهمًا في إدراك منهج المفسر في التعامل مع النصّ القرآني وفهم رسائله. وقد شهد علم التفسير، منذ أربعة عشر قرنًا، ظهور مؤلفات كثيرة صنّفها علماء من العصور الكلاسيكية والمعاصرة، ومن بينهم محمد أسد، المفكر اليهودي الأصل الذي أسلم وخلّف تفسيرًا متميزًا. وتهدف هذه الدراسة إلى تحليل وتحديد آراء المستشرقين الغربيين حول شخصية محمد أسد الفكرية، وبيان السياق التاريخي وتطورات التفسير العقلي التي شكّلت أفق تفكيره، وشرح بناء منهجه التفسيري في كتاب رسالة القرآن ، وتقييم إسهاماته في الدراسات التفسيرية المعاصرة. وللإجابة عن أسئلة البحث، تعتمد الدراسة على عدة نظريات، من بينها المنهج الهرمنيوطيقي في تفسير النص القرآني، إضافة إلى مناهج التفسير المعاصر مثل المنهج الإجمالي، والمنهج التحليلي، والمنهج المقارن، والمنهج الموضوعي. وتندرج هذه الدراسة ضمن بحوث المكتبة (Library Research)، وهي دراسة نوعية تعتمد على المصادر المكتوبة كالكتب والمجلات والمقالات وغيرها من المراجع ذات الصلة بموضوع البحث. وتُظهر نتائج البحث ما يلي: 1) ينظر المستشرقون الغربيون إلى محمد أسد بوصفه شخصية استطاعت الجمع بين العقلانية الحديثة والروحانية الإسلامية، مما جعله جسرًا فكريًا بين العالمين الإسلامي والغربي؛ 2) إنّ السياق التاريخي وتطور التفسير العقلي الذي أثّر في فكره ناتج عن تلاقٍ بين العقلانية الأوروبية وخبرته المعيشة في البيئة العربية الإسلامية، وهو ما دفعه إلى قراءة للقرآن تعتمد على الأخلاق والسياق واللغة؛ 3) يقوم منهجه التفسيري في رسالة القرآن على مزج بين التحليل اللغوي (اللُّغَويّة)، والترابط السياقي بين الآيات (السِّيَاقيّة)، والبرهنة العقلية (‘العقلية)، والتوجّه المقاصدي (المقاصدية)، مع الإفادة من المناهج الهرمنيوطيقية الحديثة؛ 4) ويتمثل إسهامه في الدراسات التفسيرية المعاصرة في تقديم نموذج تفسير عقلاني وحواري ومناسب للقارئ المعاصر، مما يوسّع أفق التفسير الإنساني والتواصلي في الدراسات القرآنية الحديثة.
