Abstract

The duration of undergraduate study is not always aligned with the ideal completion time of four years. Variations in study duration indicate differences in students’ ability to manage academic demands. One internal factor presumed to play a role is self management. This study aims to determine the level of students’ self management, describe study duration in decimal years, examine the relationship between self management and study duration, and measure the extent of the influence of self management on the study duration of PGMI students who enrolled in 2018. This research employs a quantitative approach with a correlational method. The population consisted of 110 students, with a sample of 83 students who had complete data. Self management data were collected through a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability, while study duration data were obtained from academic documentation and calculated based on the time span from enrollment to the munaqasyah examination in decimal years. Data analysis used descriptive statistics and Spearman Rank correlation test with the assistance of IBM SPSS 25 for Windows. The results show that the level of students’ self management is in the moderate category (41.0%), and 72.3% of students completed their studies in more than four years. The correlation test indicates a negative and significant relationship between self management and study duration (r = -0.269), with a low level of correlation. The coefficient of determination of 7.24% indicates that self management contributes to study duration, while 92.76% is influenced by other factors outside this study. These findings suggest that the better the students’ self management, the shorter the duration of their study, although the contribution is relatively small.
