Abstract

This article examines the interpretation of Islamic theology ('aqo'idi) in epistemological studies with a discussion of the historical background, limitations of interpretation, views of ulama and validity standards, as well as tafsir books that are classified as 'aqo'idi interpretations. This research uses a descriptive analysis method based on library research. The purpose of this paper is to research and describe the historical background to the emergence of 'aqo'idi tafsir, the boundaries of interpretation that fall into the 'aqo'idi tafsir style, the views of ulama and the validity standards of 'aqo'idi tafsir and what tafsir books are available 'aqo'idi patterned. This research found that the history of 'aqo'idi interpretation is related to the political conflict between the camps of Ali bin Abi Talib and Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan in the Siffin war. The interests and goals of the group are the background for the emergence of nuanced interpretations of 'aqo'idi. The limits of Tafsir 'aqo'idi to interpretations surrounding divine issues and power politics. The scholars view 'aqo'idi's interpretation as being classified as bi al-ra'yi's interpretation so that the standard of validity of 'aqo'idi's interpretation is linear with al-ra'yi's interpretation. If the interpretation of 'aqo'idi is classified as bi al-ra'yi al-madzmum whose interpretation is based on the motivation of lust and becomes a justification for the interests of a certain group, then this type of interpretation is not accepted. The Sunni group's book of tafsir 'aqo'idi can be found in the book Mafatih al-Ghaib by al-Razi. The book of tafsir 'aqo'idi of the Muktazilah group is found in the book al-Kasyaf by al-Zamakhshari and the book of tafsir of the Shiite group is al-Mizan by Husain al-Tabataba'i.
