Abstract
This research describes word formation and meaning of compound word in the color name of Wardah’s lipstick. The problem of this research are formulated into two questions: what are the sturtures of compound words used in the color name of Wardah’s lipstick and what are the lexical meanings of compound word in the color name of Wardah’s lipstick as well as the beauty blogger’s opinion. This research supported by theory from McCarty’s (2002), Ingo (2002) to answer the questions. Then qualitative research and descriptive method are used for this research. The data are taken from Wardah’s website www.wardahbeauty.com. The steps of data analysis included: 1) Identifying 2) Coding / Classifying 3) Describing and Interpreting 5) Making the conclusion. In conclusion there are five main categories of word formation of compound words are found, (1) adjective + adjective, (2) noun + noun, (3) adjective + noun, (4) noun + adjective, and (5) noun + verb.Some of them are divided into several subcategories that are derived by suffixes. For the lexical meaning in the color name of Wardah’s lipstick not only content with the main color name but also the combination of several kinds of words such as food names, fruit names, activities, seasons, stone names, characteristics, and feelings.
