Abstract

ENGLISH: In daily conversation people often convey a fact to the hearer and want the hearer to believe in his or her utterance with different intentions. This research focuses on the representative direct speech act produced by the characters in Cinderella movie directed by Kenneth Branagh. The purposes of this research are to find out what functions of representative direct speech act produced by the characters, and how the contexts influence the hearer’s interpretation of representative direct speech act produced by the characters in Cinderella movie. The researcher uses the theory of speech act by Bach and Harnish (2017). This research is a qualitative research with descriptive method because describing in the form of writing. From the data found, there are some functions of representative direct speech acts used by the characters in Cinderella movie and the mostly used is the tell function; meanwhile context that influences the hearer's interpretation consists of context of setting, the context has its own role but with context is mutually supportive of the hearer interpretation. INDONESIA: Dalam percakapan sehari-hari orang seringkali menyampaikan sebuah fakta kepada pendengar dan ingin agar pendengar percaya terhadap ucapannya dengan maksud yang berbeda-beda. Penelitian ini fokus pada tindak tutur representative langsung yang diproduksi oleh para karakter dalam film Cinderella yang disutradarai oleh Kenneth Branagh. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apa fungsi dari tindak tutur representative langsung yang diproduksi oleh para karakter, dan bagaimana konteks mempengaruhi interpretasi dari hearer terhadap tindak tutur representative langsung yang diproduksi oleh para karakter dalam film Cinderella. Peneliti menggunakan teori tindak tutur dari Bach dan Harnish (2017). Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif karena dideskripsikan dalam bentuk tulisan. Dari data yang ditemukan, terdapat beberapa fungsi dari tindak tutur representative langsung yang digunakan oleh para karakter dalam film Cinderella dan yang paling banyak digunakan adalah fungsi tell; kemudian konteks yang mempengaruhi interpretasi pendengar terdiri dari konteks setting, konteks tersebut memiliki perannya sendiri tetapi dengan adanya konteks saling mendukung satu sama lain terhadap interpretasi dari pendengar.
