Abstract

Aquilaria malaccensis Lamk. is an agarwood-producing woody plant with high economic value. The potential of agarwood production decreasing year by year that it needs to be protected from its extinction in nature. Tissue culture is an alternative technique of vegetative propagation of plants in order to produce agarwood in large quantities to prevent it from scarcity. The research aimed to determine the effect of IBA (Indole Butyric Acid) and BAP (Benzyl Amnio Purine) on the growth of A. malaccensis Lamk shoots in vitro. This study was carried out from April to June 2018 at Tissue Culture Laboratory, in Balai Pengembangan Benih Hortikultura (BPBH) Sumedang. The method used in this research was Completely Randomized Factorial Design with two factors. The first factor was IBA (IBA 0 mg L-1, IBA 0,05 mg L-1, IBA 0,1 mg L-1, and IBA 0,15 mg L-1), the second factor was BAP (BAP 0 mg L-1, BAP 0,25 mg L-1, BAP 0,5 mg L-1, and BAP 0,75 mg L-1) therefore there were 16 combination treatments repeated as many as three times. Duncan Multiple Range Test used as a further test. The results showed that the interaction between IBA and BAP affected emerging bud significantly with the best results shown by the treatment of 0,1 mg L-1 IBA and 0,5 mg L-1 BAP.
