Abstract

Literature serves not only as a work of imagination but also as a reflection of the social reality that unfolds within society. This study aims to describe the manifestations of social reality in Kahlil Gibran’s novel Al-Ajnihah Al-Mutakassirah. The method used is qualitative descriptive, employing Alan Swingewood’s sociological approach to literature, which views literary works as reflections of social life. The data source for this study is the novel Al-Ajnihah Al-Mutakassirah, while the research data consists of quotations containing elements of social reality. The results of the study indicate that social reality in the novel is represented through four aspects: social conditions, social values, social conflict, and social change. Social conditions include social stratification, poverty, and community culture; social values encompass love, empathy, compassion, and sacrifice; social conflicts take the form of injustice, oppression, and abuse of power; while social change is evident in the changing status of women and the dynamics of community life. These findings indicate that the novel reflects various social issues developing within society.
