Abstract

Figurative language is one of the phenomena that usually appears in translation field, and metaphor is a common figure of speech found in many languages. If a metaphor from source language (SL) is translated literally into target language (TL), it will often be completely misunderstood because sometimes this figurative language is rather difficult to understand. The words in SL culture may not be found in TL culture. It means there is no direct equivalence words of the SL found in TL. The paper entitled “The Metaphorical Translation of Metaphorical Translation In Subtitle of “The Dark Knight Rises” Movie discusses two major concerns. First, it figures out types of metaphors expressed in the movie; second, it investigates the process used in translating the metaphors. The research is qualitative study and descriptive method. The data are collected from English Movie subtitle entitled “The Dark Knight Rises” and its Indonesian translation. The collected data shows 106 items metaphors in the movie. The collected data are analyzed based on Larson theories about classification of metaphors (dead and live metaphors). Those metaphors are compared to their translated version to figure out the applied translation process based on Larson’s theories The result shows that firstly, there are two types of metaphor found in the subtitle movie, such as dead metaphor and live metaphor. The most frequent type of metaphor in this movie is the dead metaphor and the most rarely type of metaphor in this movie is live metaphor. Secondly, The process of metaphor employed is the Larson’s process of translation consists of studying the lexicon, grammatical structure, communication situation, and cultural context of the source language text, analyzing it in order to determine its meaning, and then reconstructing this same meaning using the lexicon and grammatical structure which are appropriate in receptor language and its cultural context. Larson, furthermore emphasizes that the meaning being transferred must be held contrast. Bahasa figuratif adalah salah satu fenomena yang biasanya muncul di bidang terjemahan, dan metafora adalah kiasan umum yang ditemukan dalam banyak bahasa. Jika metafora dari bahasa sumber (SL) diterjemahkan secara harfiah ke dalam bahasa target (TL), maka akan sering disalahpahami karena terkadang bahasa kiasan ini agak sulit dipahami. Kata-kata dalam budaya SL tidak dapat ditemukan dalam budaya TL. Artinya tidak ada kata kesetaraan langsung dari SL yang ditemukan di TL. Makalah yang berjudul "Terjemahan Metaforis Dalam Subjudul Film"The Dark Knight Rises" membahas dua masalah utama. Pertama, ini menunjukkan jenis metafora yang diungkapkan dalam film; Kedua, ia menyelidiki proses yang digunakan dalam menerjemahkan metafora. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dan metode deskriptif. Data dikumpulkan dari subjudul film bahasa Inggris berjudul The dark knight rises dan terjemahan bahasa Indonesianya. Data yang dikumpulkan dianalisis berdasarkan teori Larson tentang klasifikasi metafora (metafora mati dan hidup). Metafora tersebut dibandingkan dengan versi terjemahannya untuk mengetahui proses terjemahan yang diterapkan berdasarkan teori Larson. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa pertama, ada dua jenis metafora yang ditemukan di film subjudul, seperti metafora mati dan metafora hidup. Jenis metafora yang paling sering terjadi dalam film ini adalah metafora mati dan jenis metafora yang paling jarang terjadi dalam film ini adalah metafora hidup. Kedua, Proses metafora yang digunakan adalah proses terjemahan Larson yang terdiri dari mempelajari leksikon, struktur gramatikal, situasi komunikasi, dan konteks budaya teks bahasa sumber, menganalisisnya untuk menentukan maknanya, dan kemudian merekonstruksi makna yang sama dengan menggunakan leksikon dan struktur gramatikal yang sesuai dalam bahasa reseptor dan konteks budayanya. Larson, selanjutnya menekankan bahwa makna yang ditransfer harus diadakan kontras.
