Abstract

Symmetric cryptographic algorithms such as Linear Block Cipher and SimpleSymmetric Key have relatively simple encryption mechanisms and use modulararithmetic operations. However, using a single algorithm has a limited encryptionstructure; therefore, combining multiple mechanisms is needed to produce amorecomplex data protection process. This study aims to modify both algorithmsthrough layered encryption and round key generation for each data block. Theresearch methods include algorithm design, key generation, encryptionanddecryption processes, and simulation using text data. The plaintext is representedin 8-bit ASCII, then encrypted using Linear Block Cipher through matrix-keymultiplication modulo 256, followed by Simple Symmetric Key encryption using�1,� and � 2,� ' . The decryption process is performed in reverse using the modularinverse and the inverse of the key matrix. The results show that the combinationof the two algorithms produces ciphertext through two encryption stages and canberestored to the original plaintext using the corresponding keys. Therefore, theproposed method can be applied as a layered encryption scheme to produceamore complex data protection process than using a single algorithm.
