Abstract

English as an international language has become an important thing in this globalization era. Many aspects of life use English language such as law, politics, education, and economic business. In economic business, people usually use English for their product to attract a consumer and that will make their business work, it includes naming a food menu in a restaurant or café. This research analyzed and tried to find out about (1) the word formation of English food menu in “Warunk Upnormal” and also (2) the meaning of English food menu in “Warunk Upnormal”. This research used theory by Yule (2006) supported by O’Grady and Guzman (1997) to analyze data. The researcher used descriptive qualitative method to analyze and describe the word formation process of English food menu in Warunk Upnormal. The data were taken from their official website, their instagram account (@warunk_upnormal) and from “Warunk Upnormal” itself branch Jatinangor and Ujung Berung itself. The result showed that English food menu in Warunk Upnormal includes; 9 derivation processes, 12 compounding processes, 6 borrowing processes, 2 clipping processes, 3 blending processes, and 1 acronyms processes. Related to the meaning, some data has a similar meaning with dictionary and some data have not. ABSTRAK Bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa internasional telah menjadi sesuatu yang penting di era globalisasi ini. Banyak aspek kehidupan yang menggunakan bahasa Inggris seperti hukum, politik, pendidikan, dan ekonomi bisnis. Dalam ekonomi bisnis, orang-orang biasanya menggunakan bahasa Inggris untuk produk mereka agar konsumen bisa tertarik dan itu bisa membuat bisnis mereka lancar, termasuk juga kedalam penamaan nama menu makanan di restoran atau café. Penelitian ini menganalisa dan mencari tahu mengenai (1) bagaimana proses pembentukan nama menu makanan berbahasa Inggris di Warunk Upnormal dan juga (2) arti dari menu berbahasa Inggris di Warunk Upnormal. Penelitian menggunakan teori pembentukan kata dari Yule (2006) dibantu dari O’Grady dan Guzman (1997) untuk menganalisis data. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif untuk menganalisa data dan mendeskripsikan pembentukan kata dalam menu makanan berbahasa Inggris di Warunk Upnormal. Data diambil dari website resmi, akun instagram (@warunk_upnormal) dan dari Warunk Upnormal cabang Jatinangor dan Ujung Berung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan beberapa kategori pada menu berbahasa Inggris di Warunk Upnormal, diantaranya: 9 proses derivasi, 12 proses compound, 6 proses borrowing, 2 proses clipping, 3 proses blending, dan 1 proses acronyms. Terkait makna, beberapa data memiliki makna sama sesuai kamus dan beberapa lagi tidak.
