Abstract

The character of nation is the fundamental assets in establishing a globalization era. Therefore, the essential element of education is to build students’ character in order to make them ready to be a generation that has a better quality. This research is intended to analyze: (1) A cultivation model of character values on elementary students, (2) Values that should be established to create a positive character, (3) supporting and restrictive factors of implementation of character building in elementary school. This research is conducted in three selected schools, which are SDN Pakemitan (Kab. Tasikmalaya), SDN Rajamandala (Kab. Bandung Barat) dan SDS Alam Jatinangor (Kab. Sumedang). This research used qualitative method. The data was collected through an observation, interview, and document analysis. Analysis of the data was conducted through data exposure, data reduction, and conclusion. The result of the study shows that cultivation model of character in all school can be seen from the value that was taught by the learning integration, the arrangements of schools atmosphere, and the integration of extracurricular program. Fundamentally, character values that were established in those three schools were taken from education authorities. However, there were developments in those schools. Those values were the arrangements of religious atmosphere, humane atmosphere, nationalist, democratic, fair, clean, respect and polite, and help each other. Supporting and restrictive factors in establishing character values were influenced by internal (human resources, like educators, facility, and schools’ program) and external factors (relationship between schools, and schools’ committee, parents, and education authorities) Keywords: Model, Character Values, Characteristic of Elementary Students
