Abstract

This study is based on the problem of low vocabulary mastery of the first grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Taman Sari the students have limited vocabulary because their motivation in learning English is less. Then, to solve the problem, the research was conducted by using outdoor learning technique to increase students’ vocabulary mastery. Outdoor learning an experimental method of learning by doing, which takes place primarily through exposure to the out of door. The objectives of this research are to know students’ vocabulary mastery before the implementation of outdoor learning technique, to know students vocabulary mastery after the implementation of outdoor learning technique and to know how the significance is the improvement of outdoor learning technique in Students vocabulary mastery. This research was conducted from October to November 2014. The subjects of this research were the first grade of SMP Negeri 2 Taman Sari Bogor. This research is implemented by using quasi experiment method and it is used one group pre-test and post-test design. The subjects of this research were consisting of 30 students. The research used quantitative method and used multiple choice test and the data was analyzed by statistical procedure. After implementing the pre-test and post-test, it was known that the mean score before and after using outdoor learning technique. The average of the pretest that score is 56.17, it means the result is low and the average of the posttest that score is 79.33, it means the result is high. The significant improvement of students vocabulary mastery by using outdoor learning technique could be seen from the N-gain data score. The result 0.53(53%). From the counting is obtained that t count = 46.29 and t table = 2.41, so the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Therefore, there is a significant influence of using outdoor learning technique in increasing vocabulary mastery. Based on the result of the research, that outdoor learning technique can be an alternative way to teach language learner in improving vocabulary mastery.
