Abstract

Writing is one of the four language skills besides listening, reading and speaking. Based on the curriculum of Junior High School recommended by the government, there are some texts which have to be mastered by the students at Junior High School. One of the texts is recount text. Recount text writing can be mastered by various strategies, methods or technique. Thus, in this study the writer used think pair share technique to improve students’ recount text writing. Specifically, the purposes of this research are: (1) to find out the students’ recount text writing before using think pair share, (2) to find out the students’ recount text writing after using think pair share, and (3) to find out the significance of the use of think pair share technique to improve students’ recount text writing. The method of this research is pre-experimental and uses one group pre-test post-test design. This research was conducted at MTsN 2 of Bandung. The total number of population is 320 students and this research took sample from class IX-A with 36 students. The test included pre-test and post-test. In the pre-test and post-test, the students were asked to write their own recount text in forty minutes. Statistical computation was used to analyze data. The result of data analysis shows that the average score of students’ recount text writing before using think pair share is 53, while the average score of students’ recount text writing after using think pair share is 72,34. The result of calculation t-test is tcount is equal to 9.51 is bigger than ttable is equal to 2.65. Therefore, Ha is accepted and it means that there is significant difference of students’ recount text writing after using think pair share. Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that the use of think pair share can improve students’ recount text writing. Therefore, the use of think pair share can be one of reliable teaching technique in writing.
