Abstract
Every sector of life has different terminology and meaning. For example, some sectors like sports, economics, health, and others have different terms. The terms usually have special formation and meaning. These terms have to be explained more detail in their word formation process to avoid misunderstanding when people try to understand it. The researcher through this research formulated two research problems. 1. What kinds of category are these Football English Terms in word formation processes? 2. How are the Football English terms formed? To support the findings of these problems, the researcher employed the theories of word formation processes by O’Grady and Guzman (1996), Katamba (1993), Allan (1986), Hatch and Brown (1995), and Kridalaksana (2007) to analyze the data. Meanwhile the morphological process theory is based on Zapata (2007:3), and Katamba (1993). In this research, the researcher used descriptive qualitative method. The method contains identification, classification and description of the data. The data were taken from World Cup 2010: Glossary of Football Words and Expressions written by Alex Case for UsingEnglish.com 2010. The researcher then analyzed and interpreted the collected data.
