Abstract

Vocabulary is very important for students in learning English language. In order to make students’ interest in learning English, the teacher should apply a suitable method and technique in teaching vocabularies. Therefore, the use of animation video to improve students’ vocabulary could help the English teacher to make students’ more interested in teaching learning process. The research purposes are to find out (1) students’ vocabulary mastery before using animation video, (2) students’ vocabulary mastery after using animation video, (3) the significant improvement of students’ vocabulary mastery using animation video at the eighth grade students of SMP Karya Budi Bandung. Quantitative approach was employed in this research, specifically using a quasi-experimental method. The quasi experimental method was implemented in three parts: pretest, treatments and posttest. There were 124 students who are the total population and 30 students were selected as the research samples. The samples were taught by using animation video in learning process. Pretest and posttest were conducted to collect the data. It was aimed at finding the significant improvement of using animation video on students’ vocabulary mastery in descriptive text. Statistical calculation was implemented in this research to analyze the collected data. The result of data analysis for students’ vocabulary improvement could be seen from average score. The mean score of posttest 72, 54 higher than pretest 47, 04. It means that there is significant students’ vocabulary after using animation video in learning process. The statistical data result shows that t count (12, 75) > t table (2, 04). It means that H0 is rejected. In other words that there is a significant improvement of students vocabulary ability after using animation video as a media in teaching learning process. This research gives message that the use of animation video can be useful to improve students’ vocabulary mastery.
