Abstract

The issue about woman becomes significant for the researcher in writing the works. The woman position usually puts under the man in some aspect. In The Iron Lady, Abi Morgan tells about the woman who has double roles, they are the role in internal function (domestic room) and the role in the external function (public room). Therefore, in this research, the researcher raises two discussions, they are the depiction of woman-role in internal function, and the depiction of woman-role in external function. The researcher uses qualitative method for the research. The technique of collecting data is documentary method or can be called as documentation study because the data are gained from the document and the source of data is the movie script entitled The Iron Lady. In analyzing data, the researcher also uses feminist literary critic, because this research focuses on the woman character. While in analyzing the movie script, the researcher uses feminism theory and the role of woman by Betty Friedan and also take the other figures as the supporting theories, such thing as Lantara and Sugihastuti. In this matter, woman-role in internal function can be called as woman-role in family aspect, a woman is depicted as a mother and a wife. While, in external function or can be called as a woman-role in society aspect, a woman is depicted as a member of organization and an employer of organization. In this research, the researcher finds both of them are depicted by the main character named Margaret Thatcher. In this research, the researcher finds that Margaret Thatcher is the one who loves her husband and her children. Every time she tries to be a good housewife and mother by take care of them even she is busied with her career as a politician. In the other words Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady has a bigger role and responsibility than man because as a woman either she had a responsibility in her career or she must be responsible as a housewife.
