Abstract

ENGLISH This research analyzes the memes on the issue of Trump’s claim on Jerusalem using Semiotic approach. The problems of this research are formulated into two questions: 1) what is the signifier that contained in the memes on the issue of Trump’s claim on Jerusalem 2) what are the signified and message that contained in the memes on the issue of Trump’s claim on Jerusalem. This research uses the Semiotic theory of Ferdinand de Saussure (1959) to answer the research questions. This research uses the qualitative method. The data are taken from some websites of meme on the issue of Trump’s claim on Jerusalem in the Internet. The number of data in this research are ten memes on the issue of Trump’s claim on Jerusalem. The result of the data analysis, the writer found the two main points. The first point is signifier which is divided into two parts, are the signifier of pictures and texts of meme. In the signifier of picture, the writer analyzes the sign of pictures are contained in the meme, while the signifier of text, the writer analyzes the top text (statement) and bottom text (statement complement) of the meme through the relation of syntagmatic and paradigmatic. The second point is the signified and message of the meme. In this point, the writer explains the concept or meaning of the signifier and the message are contained in the meme. The conclusion of this research, that the signifier of pictures and texts in the meme on the issue of Trump that recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and moving the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem are contain the criticism and satire to his decisions which he assumed as Nazi, racist, fascist, Islamophobia and the puppet of Israel on the memes. INDONESIA Penelitian ini menganalisis suatu meme tentang isu pengakuan Trump terhadap Yerusalem dengan menggunakan pendekatan Semiotika. Masalah penelitian ini dirumuskan menjadi dua pertanyaan: 1) apa penanda yang terdapat di dalam meme tentang isu pengakuan Trump terhadap Yerusalem 2) apa petanda dan pesan yang terdapat dalam meme tentang isu pengakuan Trump terhadap Yerusalem. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori semiotika Ferdinand de Saussure (1959) untuk menjawab pertanyaan penelitian. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif. Data tersebut diambil dari beberapa situs web meme tentang isu pengakuan Trump terhadap Yerusalem di Internet. Adapun jumlah dari data dalam penelitian ini yaitu sepuluh meme tentang isu pengakuan Trump terhadap Jerusalem. Hasil dari analisis data, penulis menemukan dua poin utama. Poin pertama yaitu penanda yang terbagi menjadi dua bagian, yaitu penanda gambar dan penanda teks pada meme. Dalam penanda gambar, penulis menganalisa tanda berupa gambar-gambar yang terdapat di dalam meme, sedangkan dalam penanda teks, penulis menganalisa teks bagian atas (pernyataan) dan teks bagian bawah (pelengkap pernyataan) pada meme melalui hubungan sintagmatik dan paradigmatik. Poin kedua yaitu petanda dan pesan dalam meme. Dalam poin ini, penulis menjelaskan konsep ataupun makna dari penanda dan pesan yang terdapat di dalam meme. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini, bahwa penanda berupa gambar-gambar dan penanda berupa teks-teks pada meme tentang isu Trump yang mengakui Yerusalem sebagai ibukota Israel serta pemindahan kedutaan besar Amerika dari Tel Aviv ke Yerusalem ini mengandung kritikan dan sindiran terhadap keputusan-keputusan Trump yang mana ia dianggap sebagai Nazi, rasis, fasis, Islam pobia, serta bonekanya Israel pada meme tersebut.
