Abstract

ENGLISH This final report is the translation of chapter 1 – 5 of the book entitled How to Stop Smoking Through Self-Hypnosis written by Leslie M. Lecron. The purposes are to fulfill requirement for degree Diploma English Program, to increase translation skill of the writer, to know exactly the work of being a translator in the real world, and to understand how translation process in How to Stop Smoking Through Self-hypnosis book. Theoretically, this translation project can show the theories development about translation such as the methods, process and result of translation, and it can be useful for the additional information about the contents of the book so the writer and the readers will increase their vocabularies in health term. Practically, this final report will be motivation for the students of English vocational program in writing the final report, can help the other student translator to increase knowledge about strategy and process of translation, and for the translation association as reference in the future. The writer used the translation method from Newmark (1988:45) which were literal, Semantic, and free translation. Also, the strategies of translation used by the writer are transposition, borrowing, addition, descriptive equivalent, and omission translation. INDONESIA Tugas akhir ini berupa terjemahan bab 1 – 5 dari buku yang berjudul “How to Stop Smoking Through Self-hypnosis” yang ditulis oleh Leslie M. Lecron. Tujuan dari penulisan tugas akhir ini adalah untuk memenuhi syarat kelulusan D3 Bahasa Inggris, untuk meningkatkan kemampuan menerjemahkan penulis, untuk mengetahui secara pasti bagaimana menjadi seorang penerjemah di dunia nyata, dan untuk memahami bagaimana proses penerjemahan buku How to Stop Smoking Through Self-hypnosis. Secara teoritis, tugas akhir ini dapat menunjukkan perkembangan dari teori-teori tentang penerjemahan seperti metode, proses dan hasil penerjemahan, dan ini dapat berguna untuk informasi tambahan mengenai konten buku tersebut sehingga penulis dan pembaca dapat menambah kosa kata mereka dalam istilah kesehatan. Secara praktis, tugas akhir ini akan menjadi motivasi bagi mahasiswa English Vocational Program dalam menyusun tugas akhir, dapat membantu penerjemah siswa lainnya untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan mengenai strategi dan proses penerjemahan, dan untuk asosiasi penerjemahan sebagai referensi di masa yang akan datang. Penulis menggunakan metode penerjemahan dari Newmark (1988:45), yaitu literal translation, semantic translation dan free translation. Sementara strategi penerjemahan yang digunakan oleh penulis adalah transposition, borrowing, addition, descriptive equivalent, dan omission translation.
