Abstract
INDONESIA: Zeolit disintesis dari rumput gajah. Rumput gajah dipilih karena memiliki kandungan silika yang cukup besar yaitu berkisar 75%-85%. Silika yang diperoleh dari rumput gajah digunakan sebagai sumber silika pada pembuatan zeolit NaX. Zeolit NaX termasuk zeolit tipe X yang memiliki kerangka FAU. Zeolit NaX yang terbentuk kemudian diimpregnasi menjadi zeolit SnX. Zeolit SnX hasil impregnasi digunakan sebagai katalis pada reaksi esterifikasi dalam pembuatan biodiesel. Hasil dari esterifikasi yaitu ester yang dapat digunakan sebagai bahan subtitusi solar. Metode yang digunakan untuk sintesis zeolit NaX dari rumput gajah yaitu metode hidrotermal. Sedangkan untuk sintesis zeolit SnX digunakan metode pertukaran ion. Zeolit NaX dan zeolit SnX dikarakterisasi menggunakan instrumen XRD dan SEM. Dan untuk zeolit SnX hasil sintesis dilakukan uji esterifikasi. Hasil XRD zeolit NaX memiliki 2theta khas pada 6-40°, sedangkan zeolit SnX hasil sintesis memiliki 2theta khas pada 26-54°. Hasil SEM zeolit NaX memiliki bentuk tertrahedral terpenggal sedangkan zeolit SnX memiliki bentuk bulatan. Adapun hasil uji esterifikasi dari zeolit SnX hasil sintesis dengan variasi berat katalis dapat menurunkan kadar FFA paling optimum sebesar 74,15% sedangkan dengan variasi mol etanol penurunan kadaar FFA paling optimum sebesar 85,23%. Dengan demikian zeolit SnX hasil sintesis dapat digunakan sebagai katalis pada reaksi esterifikasi pada pembuatan biodiesel karena dapat menurunkan kadar FFA yang cukup besar. ENGLISH: Zeolite is synthesized from elephant grass. Elephant grass was chosen because it has a fairly large silica content which ranges from 75% -85%. Silica obtained from elephant grass is used as a source of silica in the manufacture of NaX zeolite. NaX zeolite is an X-type zeolite that has an FAU framework. NaX zeolite formed then impregnated into zeolite SnX. The impregnated zeolite SnX was used as a catalyst in the esterification reaction in making biodiesel. The results of esterification are esters which can be used as diesel substitutes. The method used for the synthesis of NaX zeolite from elephant grass is the hydrothermal method. While for the synthesis of zeolite SnX ion exchange method is used. Zeolite NaX and zeolite SnX were characterized using XRD and SEM instruments. And for synthesized zeolite SnX, the esterification test was carried out. The results of XRD zeolite NaX have a typical 2-theta at 6-40 °, whereas synthesized zeolite SnX has a typical 2-theta at 26-54 °. The SEM results of NaX zeolite have a truncated terrestrial shape while zeolite SnX has a spherical shape. The results of the esterification test from synthesized zeolite SnX with variations in the weight of the catalyst can reduce the optimum FFA level by 74.15% whereas the optimum mole variation in ethanol is 85.23%. Thus the synthesized zeolite SnX can be used as a catalyst in the esterification reaction in the manufacture of biodiesel because it can reduce the level of FFA which is quite large.
