Abstract

INDONESIA Serangan hama tikus pernah terjadi dengan intensitas cukup tinggi di salah satu areal pesawahan yang berlokasi di Kecamatan Ujungjaya, Kabupaten Sumedang, Jawa Barat pada tahun 2011-2013. pada awal tahun 2014 mulai adanya ketertarikan dari para petani untuk melakukan pengendalian hama tikus menggunakan musuh alami (Biopredator). yaitu dengan burung hantu jenis Serak Jawa (Tyto alba). Strategi pengendalian hama tikus dengan T. alba ini dapat dioptimalkan petani dengan pembuatan Rumah Burung Hantu (Rubuha) sebagai habitat bagi T. alba. Tujuan pada penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kondisi rubuha di areal pesawahan Kabupaten Sumedang, mengetahui ciri-ciri rubuha aktif di areal pesawahan, mengetahui efektivitas rubuha terhadap keberadaan burung T. alba. Metode sampling yang digunakan adalah metode Purposive Sampling. Pengamatan dilakukan pada siang hari, pukul 13.00-15.00 WIB dan pada malam hari, pukul 18.00 – 22.00 WIB. Dari hasil penelitian didapatkan pada delapan titik areal pesawahan di Kecamatan Ujung Jaya dari Desa Keboncau dan Desa Kudangwangi, terdapat 24 rubuha tidak aktif dan 30 rubuha aktif. Ciri-ciri dari rubuha aktif ditandai dengan adanya keberadaan T. alba di dalam rubuha, adanya tulang belulang dari tikus, adanya pellet, dan fesses dari T. alba yang berada di atap rubuha atau di bawah rubuha tersebut. Rubuha efektif sebagai tempat tinggal T. alba yang berperan dalam proses perkembangbiakan T. alba dan sebagai tempat pemantauan terhadap hama tikus di areal pesawahan. ENGLISH Rats attacks occurred frequently in rice fields of Ujungjaya, Sumedang District, West Java province in 2011-2013. In early 2014, there were interest from farmers to control rats using natural enemies (Biopredator), which was known by Serak Jawa (Tyto alba) owl. Pest control strategy in the rice fields with T. alba can be optimized by farmers by making shelter (rubuha) as a habitat for T. alba. The study aim was to determine the condition of shelter (rubuha), to know the characteristics of active shelter (rubuha) in the rice field, to know effectiveness of shelter (rubuha) toward presence of T. alba owl in the rice field of Sumedang District. T. alba has the potential to control rats in rice fields. Rats (Rattus argentiventer) are one type of pest that is relatively difficult to control. The method sampling was purposive sampling method. Observations were made during the day, 13.00 – 15.00 WIB and at night, 18.00 – 22.00 WIB. The results showed that at eight points of rice fields in Ujung Jaya, Keboncau Village and Kudangwangi Village, there were 24 inactive and 30 active shelter (rubuha). The characteristics of active rubuha were marked by the presence of T. alba in shelter (rubuha), the bones from rats, pellets, and fesses T. alba which were located on the roof or below the shelter (rubuha). Shelter (rubuha) was effective as a residence for T. alba, which played a role in the T. alba breeding process and as a place to monitor rats in the rice fields.
