Abstract

ENGLISH Inferno is a mystery genre movie, this movie shows puzzles that must be expressed. To uncover mystery requires a strong, smart and knowledgeable character to discover mystery object such as a hero character. Because of that, the researcher attracted hero effects as a research focus and chose Inferno movie as the object. This research aims to discover the hero effects in Inferno movie. The problem is how to determining of hero in Inferno, cause, there are characters in Inferno that have character like a hero. Therefore, there need to be special characteristics in determining hero and to distinguish between hero and pro-social. This research was taken to formulate the following research questions: (1) why is Prof Langdon character represented as a hero in Inferno movie? (2) how are the hero effects in building mystery formula in Inferno movie?. This research uses the descriptive qualitative method. The main data of this research are the scene, dialogue and scene description of Inferno movie. The researcher collects the data by taking screenshots of the Inferno. The theory that used to analyze data is Understanding Heroism theory by Philip Zimbardo. The results of the research show that Prof Langdon is a hero by 4 characteristics of hero in Zimbardo's theory, and all of the characteristics itself, contained in prof. Langdon character, that are : (1) engaged involuntarily, (2) conducted in service to one or more people or the community as a whole, (3) involving a risk to physical comfort, social stature, or quality of life, (4) initiated without the expectation of material gain. Besides that, there are big influences on Prof. Langdon character in building mystery genre in Inferno movie, such as, (1) developing plot of mystery genre, (2) determining the plot direction in Inferno. INDONESIA Inferno merupakan film genre misteri, film ini menampilkan teka-teki yang harus diungkapkan. Untuk mengungkap setiap misteri membutuhkan karakter yang tangguh, pintar dan memiliki pengetahuan mengenai objek misteri tersebut seperti karakter seorang hero. Oleh karena itu, peneliti tertarik pada efek-efek hero sebagai fokus penelitian, dan memilih Inferno sebagai objek. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh hero dalam Inferno. Permasalahannya adalah bagaimana menentukan karakter hero dalam Inferno, karena, terdapat karakter-karakter dalam Inferno yang memiliki peran seperti layaknya hero, oleh karenanya, perlu adanya karakteristik khusus dalam menentukan hero agar dapat membedakan antara hero dan pro-social. Penelitian ini diambil untuk merumuskan pertanyaan penelitian sebagai berikut: (1) mengapa karakter Prof. Langdon direpresentasikan sebagai hero dalam film Inferno? (2) bagaimana pengaruh hero dalam membangun genre misteri dalam film Inferno?. Peneliti ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Data utama pada penelitian ini adalah adegan, dialog, dan deskripsi adegan dari film inferno. Peneliti mengumpulkan data dengan mengambil screen shoots dari adegan-adegan dalam Inferno. Teori yang digunakan untuk analisis data adalah teori Understanding Heroism dari Philip Zimbardo. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa Prof. Langdon merupakan seorang hero menurut 4 karakteristik hero yang terdapat pada teori Philip Zimbardo, dan seluruh karakteristik tersebut, terdapat dalam karakter Prof. Langdon, yaitu: (1) terlibat secara tidak sengaja, (2) dilakukan dalam upaya pelayanan kepada satu atau banyak orang atau komunitas secara menyeluruh, (3) melibatkan resiko kenyamanan fisik, status sosial, atau kualitas hidup, (4) dimulai tanpa mengharapkan keuntungan materi. Selain itu, terdapat pengaruh yang besar pada karakter Prof. Langdon sebagai hero dalam membangun genre misteri pada film Inferno, seperti, (1) mengembangkan alur cerita dalam genre misteri, (2) menentukan arah plot dalam film Inferno.
