Abstract

The Dictation method is used to help students guessing words so their vocabulary mastery can be effectively improved. Some reasons why dictation method used to help students more efficient - usually require very little preparation and photocopying, and more useful - can develop all four skills - speaking and pronunciation. If the students do the dictating rather than the teachers, they get wider opportunity to give students to notice features of pronunciation such as weak forms. The objective of this study was to find out: 1) to increase the students’ vocabulary mastery before using dictation method, 2) to increase the students’ vocabulary mastery after using dictation method, 3) to increase the significant difference between students’ vocabulary mastery before and after using dictation method. The research was conducted at SMAN 1 Pelabuhanratu, Sukabumi Regency. The population of the research was the third-grade students of the academic year 2018/2019. However, only class of XII Science 1 was chosen as the sample by using random sampling. Quasi-experiment quantitative method used in this research was to conduct pretest and posttest. The class of XII Science 1 was an experimental group. This class was taught by using Dictation Method. This research did not use control class. The result of this research obtained can be seen the mean of N gain is 0.40. It means the students got an influence in medium level, also the paired t-test provided the result with significance t test .000 and less that 5% (0.05). It can be calculated value of tcount>ttable while (t-count =49.932 > t table =1.665). It means Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted to mean there is significance influence of dictation method to help students guess the words in vocabulary mastery.
