Abstract
This research intends to find out the portrait and the reason of women in World War II era. The object taken for this research is Breakfast at Tiffany’s by Truman Capote’s. The problems of study are: (1) how is the woman character portrait in the novel Breakfast at Tiffany’s? (2) What are the effects of World War II setting to the portrait of woman in the novel Breakfast at Tiffany’s? This study uses literary criticism with feminism approach to describe the portrait of the woman main character in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Feminist literary criticism is the most appropriate approach to analyze this novel. The results of this study are: The portrait and reason of being independent woman and wife of the main character is different with other women as her background of her past of being the poor and the situation during World War II. Meanwhile, the setting of World War II forms new mindset and changes of the behavior of person, because situation and condition is a reflected from reality. From the result of the research, it can be drawn a conclusion that the main character wants to get free to be independent woman and fled as a wife because in the era second world war many women move to be a worker and leave her authentic as a housewife.
