Abstract
Web based chat applications today are many but the security features that have been implemented have not been maximized. The fact that the application of the MD5 algorithm in login authentication is also vulnerable to rainbow table attacks. At present it is known that there are several methods that can be used to improve security, including using Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) and Completely Automated Public Turing Test to Tell Computer and Human Apart (CAPTCHA). But some of the results of related studies show that there are still some security and use of HTTPS, and CAPTCHA. This study proposes the use of the Advanced Encyrption Standard (AES) Algorithm as key authentication when a user logs in to improve security on chat applications. The results of the study show that the application of the MD5 and AES algorithms can secure the process of authenticating user data from rainbow table attacks.
