Abstract

INDONESIA: Metafora sebagai salah satu cara seorang penyair untuk mengungkapkan perasaannya yang memiliki beberapa fungsi untuk memberi saran, menunjukkan keintiman, dan memberikan peringatan. Metafora ditemukan dalam “Sonnet” oleh William Shakespeare dan “Gurindam 12” oleh Raja Ali Haji. Untuk membuat kedua karya tersebut sejajar dalam pembahasan, “Sonnet” dan “Gurindam 12” membandingkan metafora yang terdapat di dalam kedua karya tersebut. Dengan rumusan masalah berikut 1) Apakah fungsi dari metafora dalam “Sonnet” oleh William Shakespeare dan “Gurindam 12” oleh Raja Ali Haji menjadi lebih bermakna? 2) Bagaimana perbandingan metafora yang terdapat diantara “Sonnet” oleh William Shakespeare dan “Gurindam 12” oleh Raja Ali Haji? Penelitian ini menggunakan metode sastra bandingan. Data penelitian ini adalah naskah dari “Sonnet” oleh William Shakespeare dan “Gurindam 12” oleh Raja Ali Haji. Peneliti mengumpulkan data dengan menggunakan studi dokumentasi berdasarkan pada Jauhari (2010:36). Dalam menganalisis penelitian ini, peneliti menggunakan teori metafora dari Abrams (1999:97) dan teori tentang fungsi dari metafora dari Donald Davidson (dalam Abrams, 1999:158) kemudian teori bandingan dari Susan Bassnett (1993:1) dan teorinya Jost (dalam Sapardi Djoko Damono, 2009:19). Kemudian data yang dianalisis berdasarkan pada metafora dan sastra bandingan. Metafora menganalisis tentang 3 fungsi dari metafora; untuk memberi saran, keintiman, dan untuk memberi peringatan, yang mana metafora yang terdapat dalam Sonnet memiliki fungsi “keintiman” dan dalam Gurindam 12 memiliki fungsi untuk memberi saran dan peringatan. Selanjutnya membandingkan metafora yang terdapat di sonnet dan gurindam 12 tentang tiga aspek yang akan dibandingkan diantara kedua karya tersebut; kualitas intelektual, kandungan emosi dan hakikat estetika. ENGLISH: Metaphor as one of the way of the poet to express their feeling which have some function to suggest, intimate, and to lead us a notice. Metaphor found in the Sonnet by William Shakespeare and “Gurindam 12” by Raja Ali Haji. To make both of the works parallel in discussion, “Sonnet” and “Gurindam 12” compared about the metaphors that contained between both of the works. The problems are formulated 1) What is the function of the metaphor to be meaningful in the “Sonnet” by William Shakespeare and “Gurindam 12” by Raja Ali Haji? 2) What is the comparison of metaphor between “Sonnet” by William Shakespeare and “Gurindam 12” by Raja Ali Haji? This research used comparative literature method. The data are the text of Sonnet by William Shakespeare and “Gurindam 12” by Raja Ali Haji. The researcher collected with the study of document based on Jauhari (2010:36). In analyzing this research, the researcher used the theory of metaphor by Abrams (1999:97) and about the function of metaphor by Donald Davidson (in Abrams, 1999:158) then compared used the theory by Susan Bassnett (1993:1) and the theory by Jost (in Sapardi Djoko Damono, 2009:19). Then the data analyzed based on the metaphor and comparative literature. The metaphor analyzed about three functions of metaphor; to suggest, intimate, and to notice, where the metaphors in Sonnet there are “intimate” function and in the Gurindam 12 have the function to suggest and notice. Furthermore compared the metaphors that found in the sonnet and gurindam 12 about three aspects that could be compared between both of the works; intelectual quality, emotion content and aesthetic essence.
