Abstract

INDONESIA : Culture Shock merupakan kendala yang bisa terjadi kepada orang yang datang ke suatu tempat dengan budaya yang baru, masalah komunikasi adalah faktor utamanya. Usaha mengatasi masalah tersebut salah satunya dengan melakukan akomodasi komunikasi. Mereka mungkin akan berupaya mengikuti cara komunikasi yang sama dengan tempat yang baru (convergence) atau mempertahankan cara berkomunikasi asli mereka (divergence). Kendala dan proses akomodasi itulah yang dirasakan oleh Mahasiswa asal Patani (Selatan Thailand) angkatan 2015-2016 yang menuntut ilmu di Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. Secara umum peneilitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap bentuk culture shock yang dihadapi oleh Mahasiswa Patani Thailand serta mengungkap proses akomodasi komunikasi konvergensi (convergence) dan divergensi (divergence) yang dilakukan mahasiswa Patani di UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian kualitatif dan menggunakan metode Fenomenologi. Adapun sumber data yang digunakan adalah data primer dan data sekunder. Teknik pengumpulan data yang dilakukan adalah wawancara, observasi partisipatif dan dokumentasi. Dari hasil penelitian ini diperoleh bentuk culture shock yang dialami oleh Mahasiswa Patani yaitu terdiri dari aspek psikologis dan aspek sosial. Proses akomodasi komunikasi konvergensi mahasiswa Patani terdiri dari tahap pra, proses dan pasca konvergensi. Sedangkan proses akomodasi komunikasi divergensi Mahasiswa Patani yaitu terdiri dari verbal dan non verbal. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah Mahasiswa Patani Angkatan 2015-2016 di Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung mengalami Culture Shock, namun bisa mereka atasi dengan melakukan akomodasi komunikasi baik secara konvergensi maupun divergensi. Akomodasi komunikasi yang dilakukan mahasiswa Patani sudah cukup efektif sehingga tujuan mereka melakukan akomodasi tersebut mulai tercapai yaitu untuk survive atau bertahan hidup serta diterima masyarakat di lingkungan barunya sehingga memperlancar tujuan keberadaan mereka di Bandung yakni menuntut ilmu. ENGLISH : Culture shock is a problem that can happen to those who come to a new place from different culture, communication problem is the main factor. Communication accommodation is an attempt to solve the problem. The new comers may adjust the same communication way to their host (convergence) or they keep their native communication way (divergence). The problem and process of the accommodation happened to 2015-2016 enrollment Patani students who study in Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. In general, the research is aimed to find the culture shock form faced by Patani students as well as to find the process of convergence communication (convergence) and divergence communication (divergence) done by Patani students in Universitas Islam Negeri Bandung. The research belongs to a qualitative research. It uses phenomenology approach. The data resource used in the research are primary and secondary data. The technique of data collecting used in the research are interview, participative observation and documentation. From the research, it was found that the culture shock form experienced by the students of Patani consisted of social and phsycological aspects. The process of convergent communication accommodation consisted of pre, process, and post of convergence. Meanwhile, the divergent process of communication process of Patani studnents consisted of verbal and non-verbal. The research result showed that the Patani students 2015-2016 enrolmen at the State Islamic University Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung experienced the culture shock, however they could handle it by doing good communication accommodation either convergent or divergent way. The communication accommodation done by the Patani Students had been so effective that their goal doing the accommodation achieved, which was to survive and accepted in the new environment so that smoothening their presence goal here, to study.
