Abstract
Bilingualism is the ability of someone or of group in using two languages especially with equal fluency. In addition, television program also contains bilingualism phenomena from some its programs. Breakout, for instance, is a television program on Net TV which contains some bilingual aspects, especially intra-sentential code-mixing phenomenon occurred in every utterance of the presenters when presenting the program. Therefore, this research aims to find out and to do further analysis about intra-sentential code-mixing by questioning what grammatical units are found in Intra-sentential code-mixing used by the presenters of Breakout and the functions of Intra-sentential code-mixing used by the presenters of Breakout. This research is qualitative research using descriptive case studies to describe the natural phenomena which occur within the data in the research questions. The source of data comes from Breakout’s videos which contain the utterances of the presenters naturally. The analysis techniques are conducted in three steps such as categorizing data, data display and discussing tha data, and conclusion. In analyzing the data, the researcher uses Hoffman’s theory about intra-sentential code-mixing, Muysken’s theory about the functions of intra-sentential code-mixing, and other related theories to support the analysis. The results presented the presenters of Breakout frequently insert intra-sentential code-mixing in phrase and clause unit rather than word unit to their utterances. Afterwards, by inserting them into their utterances, the presenters function them to be referential function. It means that they are used to refer to what they are uttering about or probably to utter something in another way because of lack of facility in their base language.
