Abstract

ENGLISH: This Research investigates the comparison of characters and characterization in the Twilight movie and Korean drama Descendants of the Sun. The characters which are analyzed in this research included Edward Cullen, Isabella Swan, Alice Cullen and Jacob Black from Twilight movie, and Captain Yoosijin, Kang Moyeon, Seo Daeyeong, and Yoon Myeongju from Korean drama Descendants of the Sun. Thus the questions of research are: 1) The comparison of function of characters and characterization in Twilight and Descendants of the Sun, 2) The comparison of characters and characterization of both literary works, and 3) the comparison of representation of characters and characterization in both of literary works. In this research, to compare the characters and characterizations the researcher applies American Scholar Literature concept to compare the data through the synchronic and description, and for analyzing the characters and characterization through the theory of existence of characters and indirect characterization by Rimmon-Keenan. Meanwhile for investigating the function of characters and characterization through the concept of phantasy, the researcher applies theory of psychoanalysis by Freud. Moreover for investigating the characters and characterization as representation of industrial deception the theory of cultural studies by Adorno and Horkheimer is applied. To conduct the data the researcher applies comparative literature approach and qualitative data analysis. The results of the research indicate that the comparison of existence of characters in both of literary works is same. The characters in Twilight and Descendants of the sun regarded as the personified text or textualized person, and as the actor and the subordination of actor. Meanwhile the indirect characterization of the male main characters indicated heroic, loving and protective. For the female main characters indicated caring loving, brave, and cheerful, friendly and smart. The function of the characters and characterization for the creative writers and daydreamers is considered the phantasy of the creative writer and as the shortcuts of their phantasy, and then the characters and characterization also as the representation of the industrial deceptions for the men of leisure. INDONESIA Penelitian ini membahas tentang perbandingan karater dan karakterisasi yang ada dalam film Twilight dan drama Korea Descendants of the Sun. Karakter-karakter yang dianalisis dalam penelitian ini adalah Edward Cullen, Isabella Swan, Alice Cullen dan Jacob Black dari film Twilight. Sedangkan Karakter-karakter seperti Captain Yoosijin, Kang Moyeon, Seo Daeyeong, dan Yoon Myeongju dari drama Korea Descendants of the Sun. oleh karena itu masalah-masalah penelitiannya adalah meliputi: 1) Perbandingan dari karakter dan karakterisasi dalam Twilight dan Descendants of the Sun, 2) Perbandingan fungsi dari karakter dan karakterisasi dari dua karya sastra tersebut, 3) Perbandingan dari representasi atas karakter dan karakterisasi dari dua karya sastra tersebut. Dalam penelitian ini, untuk membandingkan karakter dan karakterisasi, peneliti menggunakan Sastra Bandingan aliran Amerika. Dalam aliran ini poin sinkronik dan deskriptif dari karya sastra, kemudian untuk meneliti karakter dan karakterisasi, penulis menggunakan teori Existence of characters dan indirect characterizations dari Rimmon Keenan. Sedangkan untuk meneliti fungsi dari karakter dan karakterisasi sebagai pengalihan dari fantasi, penulis menggunakan konsep fantasi Freud. Kemudian untuk membahas karakter dan karaterisasi sebagai representati tipuan industry penulis juga mengaplikasikan teori studi kultural dari Adorno dan Horkheimer. Selanjutnya untuk menganalisis data penulis menggunakan pendekatan sastra bandingan dan analisis data kualitatif. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan perbandingan dari eksistensi dari karater-karakter pada dua karya sastra tersebut adalah sama. Karakter-karakter dala Twilight dan Descendant of the Sun dapat disebut sebagai personified text atau textualized person, juga sebagai actor dan subordination of actor. sedangkang indirect characterization dari karakter pria menunjukkan karakterisasi heroic, pencinta, dan protektif.. kemudian karakter-karakter wanita menunjukkan karakterisasi yang perhatinan, pencinta, berani, dan riang, ramah dan pintar. Kemudian fungsi dari karate dan karakterisasi bagi creative writers dan daydreamers, adalah fantasi bagi creative writer dan sebagai pengalih fantasi bagi daydreamer, kemudian karakter dan karakterisasi juga sebagai representasi dari tipuan industri untuk para men of leisure.
